Superhero Play Training

Superhero and war play tends to divide opinion within early years settings. Some practitioners discourage the use of any form of play that involves the use of weapons or which has aggressive connotations. Others tend to see it as a valuable tool to encourage children (particularly boys), build language skills and extend their learning, cognitive development and imagination. This is the view of Accorn Childcare Training (the UK’s largest provider of short courses for the childcare sector) who have launched a short course with the aim of helping practitioners to use children’s love of superhero and war play in a positive way.

The course will examine a variety of superhero literature and consider ways of using it to create interesting learning opportunities and to promote a variety of skills within the EYFS framework. It will also focus on how superhero and war play can support children’s emotional well-being and make them feel more at home within early years settings.
