First ELHQ original children’s story & youtube video

Some of you may have noticed that we put a link to our youtube channel on the site a few weeks ago. Until last night it has been completely empty but we’ve now uploaded our first video. It’s a ten minute narrated story about a Penguin who wants to be an explorer like his famous grandma and so runs away from his home in the Antarctic to New Zealand. When he arrives he finds that being a famous explorer penguin is not all it’s cracked up to be. I’ve tried to incorporate many themes in to the story relating to personal, social and emotional wellbeing.

I’ve embedded a copy of the video in this post but you can also find it in the songs and stories section of our site.

I’d love to hear what you all think of it so please feel free to leave comments below or send an email via the contact us form. It’s my first attempt at writing and illustrating a children’s story so please don’t be too harsh! I wrote it after seeing a story in the news a few weeks back about an Emperor penguin that was found on a beach in northern New Zealand. It was the first time that an Emperor penguin had been spotted in New Zealand for 44 years.

Sadly I didn’t have the time to go to the lengths of animating it but it is illustrated with several pictures. A big thank you to Abby Herbert for doing a fantastic job of narrating it. I think she really managed to bring the characters to life.

As well as viewing the video you can also download a free pdf copy of the book by clicking the link on this page: Wellington goes to New Zealand. We intend to use our youtube channel to bring you more original stories. We will also be making videos for popular nursery songs so please keep visiting the songs and stories section of our site to view our progress. If you have any ideas for new stories or songs please get in touch.
