The Basics of Music: A Guide to Understanding Musical Theory

The Basics of Music

About This Primary Resource

A set of 8 A4 posters which break down the fundamental rules of music notation into easily digestible chunks. The posters include information about how sheet music looks on the page, with a brief explanation of the clefs and the time signatures, and a very simplified version of how the notes and bars work together. We have tried to make these posters as memorable as possible by splitting the bars into ‘houses’ and then asking how many beats live in each ‘room’. These posters are ideal for using at home or in your classroom and will help act as a reminder to any children learning an instrument.
