Dealing with Noisy Children: How to Lower the Noise Level in Your House

Children are one of the greatest joys in life, and one of the most beautiful miracles of life. However, these little wonders are often too loud, too happy – they are young and eager to get a big bite of the sweetest cake that is called life. They run, they scream, and laugh as loudly as they can until their bellies start to hurt. They are genuine, and free from all the social boundaries that dictate how loud you can talk or laugh, what you can and what you cannot do.

When Too Much Noise Is Too Much to Bare

Children can be very loud, and in many instances cause noise pollution. While parents have very high tolerance for all the noise their children make, noise pollution should never be something you should neglect. Noise pollution can result in sleep deprivation and can adversely affect a person’s mood and their ability to concentrate or perform demanding cognitive tasks. It can also trigger heart related problems in extreme circumstances.

How to Lower the Noise Level in Your Home?

There are many ways in which you can make your home a much quieter place. What you should never do is respond to your child’s yelling with yelling, as this will only make things worse. Your child may be speaking loudly due to frustration which is commonly associated with saying ‘no’ to them. Another possible reason is that they are simply competing for attention in a noisy environment.

What Can You Do?

One of the first things that will ensure the peace and quiet in your home is the right example. You, as a parent, are the first person to show your children that there is no need to yell, or make any loud sounds when there is no need to do so. Another thing you should do is buy your kids appropriate toys, and when we say appropriate we mean toys that are not squeaky, too loud and too colourful. Toys play an important part in your child’s efforts to adjust the level of its voice. Lastly, try to teach your child patience. Patience is associated with mild tones in your child’s voice, and you should also make sure you are armed with patience as well.
