That way you can feel confident that you will be able to properly deal with any disaster that might occur. Any first aid kit for children and adults should contain at the very least; a first aid manual for children, the medical records of the children in your care, adhesive tape, sterile gauze, elastic bandages, a splint, a gel or lubricant like vaseline ( for when little fingers get caught in tiny spaces), antiseptic wipes, soap, tweezers, scissors, a thermometer, a flash light and batteries, a mouth piece for resuscitation, alcohol wipes, a list of emergency phone numbers, and any particular medication required by the people in your care.

This is just a starting point, however, and you should add to it and consider whatever situation you’re in and what the people in your care. For epileptics or people with allergies, for instance, you will need specific medication like an epi pen. Ask the parents of the children in your care if they think there is anything that you should include and if there is anything irregular in the medical history of their child. Child health is different from adult health in many ways, so it is worth finding out the particularities of it.

You can also teach children about what a first aid kit is, what is usually inside it, and what it’s used for. Add it into your lesson about emergencies and fire safety. Teach the children what is dangerous in the kit and what should only ever be used by adults. You can familiarise the children by giving them a toy first aid kit that contains safe and imitation first aid items that will teach them about what the real objects are used for.
