National Storytelling Week

We’re on the verge of National Storytelling Week. Between Saturday January 28th and Saturday February 4th, events that are part of the week will be happening all over the country. Remarkably, they are for every age-group from Nursery age to elderly people. The whole idea is to inspire people in all areas of the community with the joy of listening to good stories, awakening imagination and creativity. It’ll be worth looking out for any events near you.

National Storytelling Week has been running now for eleven years, this year being the 12th.  It’s organised by the Society for Storytelling which is not just an organisation for  professional storytellers but for everyone that loves listening to stories as well as telling them and learning about them.

Last year during National Storytelling Week, around 17,000 people took part. Events included Sure Start Centres, BBC Radio Gloucester, The International Society inManchester,CoventryTransportMuseum, Salisbury Playhouse Theatre and many other organisations, including schools throughout theUK. More details of what is planned for this year can found on the website of the Society for Storytelling: www.sfs.org.uk
